Our Parish

This parish was created from the former parishes of St Joseph and of English Martyrs by decree of the Rt Rev Arthur Roche, Bishop of Leeds. The following is an extract from that Decree.

The new parish shall be called the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Huddersfield. Its boundaries shall consist of the former said parishes of St Joseph and English Martyrs and the new boundary splitting the former said Holy Family parish will run from the point where its boundary with the former St Brigid's parish followed Blackmoorfoot Road in a south-westerly direction; it will continue along Blackmoorfoot Road and then along Holthead Road. Where Holthead Road joins Varley Road the boundary will go south and then along Intake Lane; the boundary then will take a bee-line from the end of Intake Lane to the point where the A635 crosses the boundary of the former parish of St Joseph, Huddersfield and the parish of the Sacred Heart, Uppermill. Where the boundary follows a road both sides of the road shall be deemed to be in the new parish of the Holy Redeemer.
